A young bachelor named Don moves out into his own apartment for the first time and, though it is just a cramped cold-water flat, the freedom he experiences is exhilarating. Even more exhilarating is the fact that a pretty, kooky actress has recently moved into the apartment next door and a sweet friendship quickly blossoms. The girl soon learns that Don is actually escaping from his overprotective mother. When mother and the girl finally meet the two simply do not mix, as the girl tries to encourage Don to follow his dreams while the mother tries to banish the girl from Don's life.
